1. What is the Carbon Fiber filament?

Carbon fiber filament is typically a composite that combines PLA material, PEEK material, PC material, PA material and ABS material with carbon powder. Toner is added to the PLA matrix as a reinforcement and the composite filament suitable for FDM printing is obtained by blending and extrusion. The material has good adhesion and the initial deformation resistance is also enhanced. Mainly, there are many studies on filaments suitable for FDM. For example, the carbon fiber (CF) and polylactic acid (PLA) particles were fully mixed by high mixer. The CF-PLA composite was successfully prepared by extruder and the samples were fabricated by 3D printing. The mechanical properties, thermal properties and cross-section morphology of the CF-PLA composite filament were tested. The study found that the heat resistance of CF-PLA composite filament was higher than that of pure PLA filament and the breaking strength of CF-PLA composites with 1% CF content can reach 70 MPa, which was higher than that of pure PLA. It was proved that CF had a reinforcing effect on the body of PLA.

2. What are the classifications of Carbon Fiber filament?

Sorting by material, it can be divided into CF-PA, CF-PC, CF-PEEK, CF-ABS, and CF-PLA.

CF-PEEK

CF-PEEK is a composite polymer, black in colour. It has excellent biocompatibility, chemical resistance, mechanical properties, and thermal properties. It is considered as one of the world’s highest performing functional materials, which allow it to use in harsh environment. CF-PEEK is produced using 10% carbon fiber content and still having all the advantages of PEEK. At the same time. It is lighter than PEEK, having better interlayer adhesion and better temperature resistance. At present, it is often used in demanding applications such as aerospace, automotive, and electrical industries.

CF-PA

CF-PA is a carbon fiber reinforced PA6 filament. The carbon fiber reinforcement provides significantly improved stiffness, strength, and heat resistance with outstanding layer adhesion. Under high temeprature up to 120℃, it is still able to maintain the same mechanical properties. CF-PA is lighter than PA and maintain the same advantages.

CF-PC

CF-PC is reinforced with the carbon fiber that features a very high strength to weight ratio. The thermal resistance is one of the highest among the 3D printing filaments and also having excellent mechanical properties. It is the ideal choice for a wide range of engineering application.

CF-PLA

CF-PLA is an improved carbon fiber reinforced filament. Compared to the normal PLA, it is an ideal choice for users that want a part with high modulus, excellent surface quality, dimension stability and lightweight.

CF-ABS

CF-ABS is an improved carbon fiber reinforced filament. Compared to the normal ABS, it is an ideal choice for user that wants a part with high modulus, excellent surface quality, dimension stability and lightweight. Compared with the normal ABS, CF-ABS reduces the coefficient of thermal expansion and the warping happens when printing and higer power distribution of mechanical stress.

4. What is the production process?

5、What’s the difference between iSANMATE CF filament and the pure PLA filament?

The pure PLA also has disadvantages such as poor toughness and easy thermal degradation. PLA was modified by adding materials to achieve better performance. Compared to pure PLA, the carbon fiber(CF) PLA has high strength, high modulus, fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance and wear resistance etc. The excellent properties not only make that the composite material have good electrical conductivity, but also it can make up for the shortcomings of PLA properties.

7. What matters should be paid attention to when using Carbon Fiber filament?

(1)Pay attention to the moisture resistance of the filament. The CF material has the characteristics of water absorption, and the CF filament are no exception. After you use it, please put the filaments in a sealed box or a sealed bag and add a desiccant for storage.

(2)CF-PEEK filament is a kind of high-temperature material. when you print it, we suggest that you can print with 380-420 degrees. The other CF filament print roughly with 200-240 degrees.

(3)Our CF 3d filaments are also suitable for use under 0.4mm nozzle.

(4) Please clean the nozzle immediately after use. You can use pla filament of about 15cm to feed into the printer and extrude to achieve the purpose of cleaning.
