A 3D printing material is more than a set of numbers on a datasheet. Its real value comes from how it performs in an actual application. Over three days in Shenzhen, we had the opportunity to put that idea into practice — showcasing different 3D printing filaments, demonstrating their performance, and talking with visitors about real-world application requirements.
Now that the event has come to an end, we’d like to share a few highlights from the conversations and demonstrations that stood out at our booth.
From Material Specifications to Real-World Demonstrations
At our booth, visitors could explore a range of FDM 3D printing materials and see different performance characteristics through physical samples and live demonstrations.
Rather than focusing on a single “best” filament, the conversations often came back to a more practical question: Which material makes the most sense for a particular application? For one application, easy and reliable printing may be the priority. For another, higher stiffness, weather resistance, flexibility, or other performance characteristics may matter more. This is where having a broader range of material options can make a difference.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Filaments: When Stiffness Matters
Carbon fiber reinforced materials were one of the highlights of our booth, particularly during a direct stiffness comparison. We used the same type of jig and fixture to compare conventional and carbon fiber reinforced materials. The demonstration made the difference in rigidity easy to see and understand.
For applications such as jigs and fixtures, structural components, functional prototypes, and lightweight parts, stiffness can be an important consideration when selecting a 3D printing material.

Our carbon fiber portfolio covers multiple material systems, including PLA CF, ABS CF, PETG CF, ASA CF, PAHT CF, PPA CF, and PP CF. For engineers, this offers more room to balance requirements such as stiffness, temperature resistance, chemical resistance, impact performance, weight, and cost.
PEBA Took a Different Approach to Performance
While carbon fiber demonstrated stiffness, our PEBA filament demonstration focused on elasticity and resilience. One of the most memorable moments at the booth was a basketball printed with PEBA and used for a simple bounce demonstration. It offered visitors an immediate visual impression of the material’s elastic behavior.
With high elasticity, repeated bending resistance, and fatigue performance, PEBA is suited to applications where flexibility and resilience are important, including elastic functional structures, cushioning components, and wearable parts.
The simple demonstration also opened up conversations about how PEBA could be used in applications that traditionally rely on other flexible 3D printing materials.
A Broader View of FDM 3D Printing Filaments
The conversations at the booth reinforced something we continue to see across the 3D printing industry: material selection is becoming increasingly application-driven.
For some users, the priority is simple and reliable printing. For others, mechanical performance, environmental resistance, stiffness, flexibility, appearance, or weight may matter more. This creates a need for material options that can meet different performance and application requirements.

Beyond the Technical Discussions

Over the three days, we had the opportunity to meet customers, engineers, product developers, makers, and industry partners from different backgrounds. The conversations covered material selection, printing requirements, application challenges, and potential opportunities for collaboration. Being able to see printed parts and materials in person also made it easier to exchange ideas and discuss specific applications.
More importantly, these conversations and demonstrations gave us a better understanding of what users are looking for from 3D printing materials and where new material solutions could make a practical difference.
What Comes Next
The feedback and application discussions from the show will contribute to our ongoing work on FDM 3D printing filaments and material solutions, from everyday printing materials to more specialized engineering and flexible materials.
