High-Speed ABS Filament Temperature Guide

Finding the right ABS filament temperature is essential for stable extrusion, strong layer adhesion, and consistent print quality. For high-speed printing, temperature becomes even more important because more material must be melted and extruded in less time.

This guide focuses specifically on ABS HF and covers the recommended nozzle and bed temperatures for reliable high-speed printing.

Recommended Temperature for ABS HF

The following settings are our recommended starting points:
Nozzle temperature: 260–280°C
Bed temperature: 80–100°C

For related settings, iSANMATE ABS HF can be used with a 0–30% cooling fan depending on the print. These are recommended starting points based on our ABS HF testing. The ideal setting can still vary with your printer, nozzle size, layer height, printing speed, and build environment.

ABS HF Nozzle Temperature

The ABS HF nozzle temperature directly affects how efficiently the material melts and flows through the hotend.

High-speed printing increases the amount of filament that needs to be melted per second. If the nozzle temperature is too low for the required flow rate, you may experience:

  • Under-extrusion
  • Inconsistent extrusion
  • Poor layer bonding
  • Rough or uneven surfaces

For iSANMATE ABS HF, the recommended nozzle temperature is 260–280°C. For faster printing or higher material flow, you may need to work toward the upper part of this range. However, increasing the temperature is not always the solution. Excessive heat can increase stringing, oozing, or other surface defects. The goal is to find the lowest temperature that provides stable flow at your intended printing speed.

ABS HF Bed Temperature

The ABS HF bed temperature helps maintain first-layer adhesion and reduces the temperature difference between the printed part and build surface.

For iSANMATE ABS HF, we recommend 80–100°C. A lower setting within this range may be suitable for smaller parts, while larger models can benefit from a higher bed temperature.

If you experience corner lifting, do not rely on bed temperature alone. Build plate condition, first-layer settings, drafts, and the overall printing environment can also affect ABS HF adhesion.

Does High-Speed ABS Need a Higher Nozzle Temperature?

Not necessarily. High-speed printing increases the required volumetric flow, but nozzle temperature is only one part of the equation. Hotend capacity, nozzle diameter, layer height, line width, and printing speed all affect how much material must be melted.

In our testing, iSANMATE ABS HF filament achieved a usable volumetric flow of 26.4 mm³/s. Our recommended printing speed is 200–300 mm/s, with testing reaching up to 500 mm/s under specific conditions.

This is why ABS HF temperature should be adjusted together with printing speed and volumetric flow rather than increased simply because the printer is running faster.

How to Find the Right ABS HF Temperature

ABS HF temperature test showing print quality at different nozzle temperatures

Start within the recommended 260–280°C nozzle range and print a small temperature test. To compare:

  • Extrusion consistency
  • Layer adhesion
  • Surface quality
  • Stringing
  • Overhang performance

Change one setting at a time and test at your intended printing speed. A temperature that works well at 100 mm/s may not produce the same result at 300 mm/s because the material flow requirement is different.

Quick ABS HF Temperature Settings

  • Nozzle: 260–280°C
  • Bed: 80–100°C
  • Cooling fan: 0–30%
  • Recommended printing speed: 200–300 mm/s
  • Usable volumetric flow: 26.4 mm³/s under tested conditions
  • Drying: 60–70°C for 5–8 hours

FAQ

🔎 Is ABS HF faster than regular ABS filament?
ABS HF is designed for faster printing than standard ABS filament. Its higher flow capability helps the hotend maintain consistent extrusion at higher material throughput. Actual print speed still depends on the printer, hotend, nozzle, model, and print settings.

🔎 What is the recommended printing temperature for ABS HF?
For iSANMATE ABS HF, the recommended nozzle temperature is 260–280°C, with a bed temperature of 80–100°C. These settings provide a starting point and may need adjustment based on the printer and printing speed.

🔎 Does ABS HF require an enclosed 3D printer?
An enclosed printer is recommended for larger ABS HF parts, as a stable printing environment can help reduce warping and improve dimensional consistency. Smaller parts may print successfully on an open-frame printer when environmental conditions are suitable.

🔎 Does ABS HF need a higher temperature for high-speed printing?
Not automatically. Higher printing speeds increase material flow requirements, so temperature may need adjustment to maintain stable extrusion. Hotend capacity and other print settings also matter.

🔎 Does ABS HF need to be dried before printing?
Yes, drying ABS HF before printing is recommended when the filament has absorbed moisture. A drying temperature of 60–70°C for 5–8 hours is recommended. Properly dried filament can help maintain more consistent extrusion and surface quality.
